Shot Peening Services

Shot Peening Services

This specification applies to the shot peening of stainless steel components intended for downhole service. The treatment generates a layer of compressive stress that helps prevent stress corrosion cracking (SCC), provided that service stresses do not exceed the applied compression and that wear and corrosion do not remove the compressed material.

Important Note: This specification is not applicable when surface peening is used solely for surface conditioning (e.g., anti-galling) without a requirement for a compressive layer.

Applications:

  • Magnetic and Non-Magnetic Materials:
    • Austenitic Stainless Steels:
      • 304
      • 316
      • 310
      • Nitronic 50
  • Precipitation Hardened Stainless Steels:
    • 17-4PH
    • 15-5PH
    • 13-8 Mo
  • Non-Magnetic Drill Collar Steels:
    • P530
    • P550
    • NMS100
    • DNM140
